Event Details

Georgia College’s President Commission on Diversity, Institutional Equity and Diversity, and Black Student Alliance are pleased to present the Fifth Annual Flagg Social Justice Legacy Awards.  Three awards will be presented at 6:00 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2012, in Georgia College’s Magnolia Ballroom to individuals who have worked to create a more inclusive Middle-Georgia community.

The Award recognizes our unsung heros for their works to promote social justice, equity, diversity, human rights, and/or community advocacy. Three awards are given: One to a Georgia College student or registered student organization, one to a Georgia College Faculty, Staff or Administrator, and one to a Middle GA community member.

This year’s speaker will be Dr. Leslie Harris, Associate Professor of History and Winship Distinguished Professor in the Humanities at Emory University. Dr. Harris is the co-founder and director of the Transforming Community Project (TCP).  "The TCP mobilizes individuals in every sector of Emory University in a reflective, fact-driven engagement with the University’s history and current experiences of race, gender, sexuality and other forms of human difference."

The Flagg Social Justice Legacy Awards is named in honor of Rev. Wilkes B. Flagg for his lifelong contributions to educational advancement and social justice.
